RE: $10K cash found and returned by 17 year old

Two comments:
1: Owner may recall the bank crashes back in the old days and looking at today's financial reports makes me glad I don't have much in the bank. (it is elsewhere)
2: I recall a Paul Harvey story some years ago talking about teens.. How some dozen had been arrested for inciting to riot and how the news had been all over those arrests
But the news had fully ignored the thousands sitting quietly on the beach listening to Billy Graham.
The moral... Most teens are good.. The bad ones make "better" press (that is the Editors think they make better press... I'm not so sure)

RE: Where you going to get electricity for plug in vehicles??

I keep wondering (And now someone is doing it) why we don't take a full electric and pop in an Onan Emerald to keep 'em charged. Now here is how that would work
The onan could be perhaps a 5,000 (about 5-hp when you factor in conversion loss) generator, this would burn 1-1.5 gallon per hour at full load, that's 40 to 60 MPG at 60 mph Now most of the need for HP is when the light turns green. once you are rolling you don't need that much power. This is where the electrics shine
Now, a true hybrid uses a bit whomping gas engine (comparatively) to pull away from the light, but drops to electric for gentle acceleration and cruising
This system would use electric full times.. just slowly charging the batteries
With reclamation of brake energy and other saving methods you could easily hit the magic 400 mile range limit.

RE: Marquis 7000 Gen acting crazy

First the generator on most motor homes (if not all) does not make DC, it makes AC, the converter makes DC.. Now come converters are intelegent regulated devices like the Xantrex or Progressive Dynamics 9200.. Some are junk and have no regulation.
The alternator should. however, be well regulated
What converter does that rig have?
(Seems like anytime someone has a 12 volt problem I'm asking that)

RE: ONAN 4.0 Starts/Quits/Code 36

Fuel Filter clogged?
If it's giving a "no fuel" code that would be suspect #1 on my list.

RE: Picture of loose wires?

Amazing how they hide those things isn't it
had the same problem on my music director's (At church) house.. Took us close to an hour to find the thing and it was in a place I'd not even consider putting an outlet... let alone a GFCI.. IT's labeled now!!!!

RE: car wiring for brake buddy

One thing I just noted.. You said "Mailbu" That's a Chevy, GM.
GM has a habit of using wires (And fuses) that are a bit anemic for the Brake Buddy type devices..
I would consider a dedicated line from the battery 10GA or heavier. and as I said before... Consider a US-Gear unified brake decelerator...
No box to wrestle in and out, Just two leads to hook up (The brake away cable and the power cord) no danger of running your battery down on the towed, quite the oppisite in fact (Charges towed battery from motor home)
Have you ever said (or can you hear yourself possibly saying) "We are not going that far. Let's just forget it". not so with the US-Gear system. it takes longer to say that then to hook it up.

RE: Clearing water lines with air compressor

I regulate to 45-50 PSI.. Don't wish to risk higher pressure and don't need it
Just remember BLOW pause, BLOW pause, BLOW pause I'll blow the first time till I the lines appear clear, then pause 30 seconds to 5 minutes and blow again and again and again, several times. Dump the waste tanks and pink up the traps
Don't forget to drain the water heater and disable it and the ice maker if you got one.

RE: What do I need to watch TV on laptop?

Well. SPEED..
Internet speed is important
Media speed (Dish drive data flow rates)
Processor speed
All important
Also some times some software packages don't play nice together.. For exampnle a very good "Thousands of Satellite TV channels on your PC for FREE only $49.95" programs (Among other things it does not push any of the lies in the quoted sentence) is MIRO
It's thousands of INTERNET Televisions channels on your PC for FREE! (end of sentence) no mention of satellite (which it is not) nor of 49.95 (which it is also not) but FREE!
It don't play nice with Total Recorder... Causes very messed up playback
(Of course I can "Disable" Total Recorder and it works fine)

RE: Sensor Lights/House

There is no common code but if you go to the sensor maker's web page the instructions will be there.. One switch uses on/off/on (all within 3 seconds) for example.
If you know electricity you can also bypass the sensor

RE: Using space heater in home

No doubt someone here will say that doing so will burn your house and RV down. ;-)
Dave
ROFL.. Well Dave... The sad part is funny as that line is.. I strongly suspect you might be right
I should add I've seen a lot of these boosters in assorted places.. Never used one myself (Very small house.. The farthest register from the furnace is like 3 paces..) In my parent's house they found improvement when they upped the HP on the main blower motor
Just so you know

RE: is the converter done for?

Re Load testing Harbor Freight
Take the shop to them :)
NOTE, U-2200's need about 650 amp draw for a proper test but even at 450 (the most mine has ever sucked) it's a fairly good indication..
Or to put it simply.. If they fail at 450 they are BAD

RE: Redistribute loads in 50 amp panel

Balancing loads is kind of a "one for me, one for you" type operation
What you do is assign a number to each line. save the 2 AC lines (no need there since they self-balance) leave one AC on L-1 the other on L-2 and you can forget those
To assign numbers,, Divide watts by 100 (I know that's not accurate but in this case it really don't matter)
Water heater is thus around a 13, Converters can be 10-20, Microwave is about a 10 (ok that's on the sub panel) Xantrex by itself with lots of dead batteries is about a 15 can be up to 30 with 120 volt loads. Fridge is 3.5
once you have figured it out best you can play "one for L-1, One for L-2"
Don't worry about getting it exact.. That's what the neutral wire is for.

RE: Adding a second battery

To the O/P the answer is "Both" however in most cases I suspect they simply get a 2nd single box.. WHY? Lower cost of course. And a bit more flexibility as to mounting over & under, side by side, end by end, or whatever.

RE: Extend-a-Stay Installation

I installed one.. Did not do anything special with the regulator save extend a splash guard a bit to shield it from road spray If you "Off road" it might be a problem. but the way my rig rides.. Well, I'd have to seriously abuse it

RE: Give me your opinions on liability (Update 12/03/08)

Don't be too sure about him never being able to engage in weight lifting or heavy sports..
Now first.. Understand that in the field of medicine YOUR MILLAGE MAY VARY is gospel I mean YOUR MILLAGE most likely WILL vary.. No question there
Several years ago someone I know like a brother.. (Actually he IS my brother) suffered an injury to his foot resulting in a bone fusion job.. He was told that he'd never be able to run, never be up on his toes.. 2 years later he had lettered in Track and was going out for football.. Both heavy duty running sports which he'd been told he would never do.... As he was getting ready to leave the doctor's office (With his doctor's approval to play football in hand) Doc ask him to wait a bit, I want you to meet someone... that someone turned out to be another boy, same age,who had had the same operation the day before my bother.. He was still using a cane and walking with a limp.. Same injury,Same operation, Different outcome
What was the difference? MOTIVATION (or if you like attitude)
Some years later omeone I know even better than a brother.... That is ME, suffered a fall breaking 2 lumbar vertebra (L-1 L-2 as I recall)
Within a few years I was able to pick up and carry over 200 pounds of "Stuff" (Not weightlifting, but cargo handling) which is right close to what I could do pre-injury.
Oh, I still suffer a bit of lower back pain from time to time. butat 58yoa that is to be expected I'm told And I can still grab 200 pounds and lift it
So it is possible your son may recover and play sports. I was never one for sports and feel that some of them (Football for example) are well.. THE PROBLEM
Today, for other reasons.. Sports are kind of out for me.

RE: List products that ARE made, grown or assembled in the US

On RTN-Television there is a company.. Henry Firearms. that brags that the weapons they produce are 100% american made and 100% american content too. They even list the states where the gun barrels, brass parts and small steel parts, and stock come from.
Now as it happens.. I'd not mind owning one of those rifles.. Might well never take it out of the factory packing,, but I'd not mind owning one

RE: Where to dump Tanks?

Some truck stops have dump sites http://www.flyingj.com usually has 'em
Some Loves, TA or Pilots' will have 'em
Many cities operate a free dump site http://www.sanidumps.com/ should list them
I also have a dump site here at the house
